For each plant or flower there are 1-2 description pages and 1-3 full page illustrations, each illustration printed on high quality and bright paper. The engravings are detailed and with beautiful colours. All illustrations are protected by a tissue guard. "Exquisitely delicate plates of pure colour printing" (Dunthorne). Jean Henri Jaume Saint-Hilaire (1772-1845) is one of the lesser known members of a group of post-revolutionary botanists that had at its heart such luminaries as L'Heritier, Ventenat, and most notably Pierre-Joseph Redouté.

Beautiful gilded friezes, floral motifs and titles of the work and author. Thick, bright and high quality paper. The illustrations are detailed and with beautiful colours, no particular defects. Author & Illustrator: Jean Henri Jaume Saint-Hilaire (1772–1845) was a French naturalist and artist, born in Grasse, France. Born as Jaume, he added Saint-Hilaire later. He served in the French Army during the Italian campaign, before returning to civilian life in 1800. He then returned to Paris and resumed his studies, especially natural history. He wrote a guide to the new Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, and learned floral painting from Gérard van Spaendonck (1746-1822).
